Kruispost Foundation continues independently

Kruispost Foundation continues as an independent organisation. It is no longer part of the Oudezijds 100 community.

Community Oudezijds 100

Started in 1952, originated from the French church movement “prêtre ouvrié,” with a focus on presence and outreach to the poor. A house of hospitality emerged in the inner city of Amsterdam with a focus on the three pillars of the Christian faith community: “diaconate, pastorate and apostolate” (social- spiritual and educational care). From this initiative, both foundations Oudezijds 100 and Kruispost emerged, each with their own specific areas of care embedded in the Amsterdam community.

Foundation Oudezijds 100

This foundation was founded in 1955 with the aim of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in the inner city of Amsterdam. Oudezijds 100 expresses this vocation through presence, social, psycho-social and pastoral care. In this, the residential community functions as an extended family and school of practice, supporting care.

Kruispost Foundation

Founded in 1983, Kruispost provides medical and psychosocial care to uninsured and undocumented Amsterdam residents who cannot find help in mainstream care. Our physicians and caregivers provide full, professional primary care, basic dental care and limited second-line care offerings. We have substantive healthcare expertise and experience with the often complex and multidimensional issues of the uninsured.

Kruispost has grown into a professional organization where volunteer (family) doctors, specialists and receptionists provide care to an increasing number of patients. Currently, more than 12,000 consultations are performed annually. This development requires, on the one hand, a reorientation with respect to the original objective and forms of cooperation and, on the other hand, an organization that is in line with contemporary GP care. This has led to Kruispost continuing as an independent body and no longer being part of OZ100. This enables Kruispost continue along the previously established path of further medical professionalization.

This independence also allows the Oudezijds 100 community room for further development and expansion based on its initial attendance and care assignments in relation to current care needs from society and aid demand.

In a number of areas, such as housing, OZ100 and Kruispost remain linked to each other in order to continue to serve their vulnerable populations to the best of their ability.
